Pools are a popular place for adults and children, but at the pools viruses, bacteria, mold spores, algae and dangerous Legionella also feel like at home. Ozone technology is designed to remove these unloved swimmers. Also, ozone can significantly reduce the addition of chlorine (30-80 %), and even makes it unnecessary. The use of chlorine to disinfect water in swimming pools can be very dangerous. In fact, due to the reaction of chlorine with organic and inorganic compounds, by-products are formed as chloramines and THM (trihalomethanes). Chloramines contribute to the typical smell of chlorine as well as irritation of the skin and eyes. THM can be absorbed through the skin and lungs, and is considered as the trigger for cancer or diseases of the airways. In addition, some parasites such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia genus are highly resistant to this chemical disinfection techniques. Even with a dangerous and extremely resistant bacterium Legionella can be fought only with high doses of chlorine. Legionella occurs where heated and stagnant water provides ideal conditions for breeding – meaning, potentially in each pool. Highly reactive ozone has been used successfully for more than 30 years in the treatment of pool water. Ozone is the strongest natural oxidant and is extremely suitable for disinfection (elimination of viruses and bacteria), as well as for the oxidation of organic pollutants. The remnants of soap, sweat, body creams and oils are also effectively destroyed with ozone.
